Niagara police charge driver after SUV hit and killed migrant worker

The driver who hit and killed migrant worker Fermin Soto Sanchez in June was charged on Wednesday, with careless driving causing death, according to police.

Niagara police have charged a 51-year-old woman over two months afterawhite Ford Edge hit three migrant workers, killing one.

Fermin Soto Sanchezwas reportedlywalking his bike along Seventh Street in St. Catharines on June 13 with his two co-workers and friends,Alfonso Ramos and Francisco Cordova, when they were hit.

Ramos and Cordova were hurt but Soto Sanchez was pronounced dead later that day.

The driverwas charged Wednesdaywith careless driving, careless driving causing bodily harm and careless driving causing death.

Soto Sanchez was a migrant workerfrom Mexico, according to family and friends.

He had been going back and forth between Canada and his home in Michoacn for at least 10 years.

Cordova and Ramos were also from Mexico and remember Soto Sanchez as a good friend and a "great cook."

Soto Sanchez had awife and three children back in Mexico.

The 51-year-olddriver was released on a summons and will appear in court on Sept. 13, according to police.
