SIU won't charge Hamilton officer after man suffered broken nose during arrest

Ontario's police watchdog has ruled that an officer will not be criminally charged in connection with a man whose nose was broken while being arrested.

The 52-year-old man was injured during the arrest on January 9th. He was taken to Hamilton General Hospital "where he was diagnosed with a broken nose," the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said in a press release.

Police say the arrest happened after officers stopped a vehicle that had been at a suspected drug house in Hamilton. The SIU says the suspect left the vehicle and officers chased him and he was "was overpowered, handcuffed, and taken to theHPSCentral Station" where he was held while waiting for abail hearing."

The Special Investigations Unit heard that the man, who was a passenger in the vehicle, got out of it and started to walk away, before a struggle with the officer attempting to arrest him.
