Shania Twain will host the Canadian Country Music Awards Sept. 9 in Hamilton

Shania Twain will host the 36th Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Awards on Sept. 9 in Hamilton.

Twain has sold more than 90 million albums since her debut in 1993

Shania Twain will hostthe 36th Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Awards onSept. 9in Hamilton.

Twainwas announced as host Monday morningat the Tourism Hamilton Visitor Centre. The announcement was made with CCMA president, Tracy Martin, and Hamilton's mayor, Fred Eisenberger.

Twain, a five-time Grammy and 24-time CCMA Award winner, will also be accepting The Generation Award at the show this fall.

CCMA says in a media release that Twain is the second person to receive this award, for "her significant impact on the country music industry," says CCMA in a media release. The first recipient wasTaylor Swift in 2012.

Twain has sold more than 90 million albums since her debut in 1993. In November last year, she delivered her first albumin 15 years. She wrote all the songs on it herself.

She will be going on a global tour with shows across Canada among others starting May, with a Hamilton stop June 30.

Tim Potocic, chair of Hamilton's CCMAorganizing committee, talked up Twain's involvementMonday.

"She's one of the biggest superstars in Canada ever, and she happens to be a country musician," he said. "I think it's pretty amazing to have her in town."

There will be cheap tickets available, and a few community events leading up to the show, Potocic said. "You don't have to buy a $100 ticket to come to the show."

The city is contributing $250,000 to host the event, which will generate an estimated$5.3 million spinoff, said Sharon Murphy, Tourism Hamilton business development consultant.

Hamilton's last CCMA hosting gig was seven years ago, Martin said, but "we're always in conversation to come back more frequently."

The CCMA Awards will take place at FirstOntario Centre and will be broadcast live nationwide on CBC and atcbcmusic.ca/ccmasat8 p.m. EST.

Select tickets will be available through a CBC Music pre-sale startingApril 25 at 10 a.m. EST. Public tickets start sellingApril 27 at 10 a.m. EST. You can purchase them at the box office at FirstOntario Centre or online atticketmaster.ca.

The last time Hamilton hosted the CCMA Awards was in 2011.
