Wondering what to do with your kids this Saturday at Supercrawl?

You're in luckthough downtown will no doubt be swarming with people for the festival, organizers have cleaved off a section of York Boulevard by James Street just for children's activities.

Here's a look at some of the things you'll find inside the Supercrawl family zone.

Art Flotilla/Parade

Everyone likes a good paradeand artists and educators Jody Boston, Roger Ferreira and Cornelia Peckart are creating one with kids at Supercrawl.

Boston is leading the movement and music activities, while Ferreira and Peckart will help create the art flotilla. The fun begins at noon in the Supercrawl Family Zone, with parades through the Supercrawl streets at 1:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Instrument petting zoo

Members of the nonprofit An Instrument For Every Child are building an "instrument playground" where kids can try out the different instruments offered in the program. Just pray your kid doesn't take to the drums.

It's an opportunity for curious/budding musicians and their parents to see, hear, and touch the instruments and learn about the AIFEC program, which offers free instrumental instruction in Hamilton's inner-city elementary schools.

The 30-minute presentations start each hour from noon to 4 p.m. on York Boulevard near Macnab Street North.

Re-envisioning Hamilton

The Phillpott Community Church is helping re-envision the city through a child's perspective. Kids can use their imaginations to take part in the planning and redesign of Hamilton.

Using chalk on the ground and markers on the cardboard to decorate structures, participants can fill the city blocks with their vision of what an ideal Hamilton would be like. For added fun, try to predict where the stadium ends up.

The planning and redesign happens on York Boulevard near Park Street North.

Kid's gardening workshops

Does your child have a green thumb? Then the Children's Lands Canada gardening workshops might be the right fit.

Local Children's Lands facilitator Julia Hitchcock of Plan B Organic Farm is running a hands-on gardening and art workshop at Supercrawl. Kids get to choose three plants: One for themselves, one for another person and one for the natural worldthen decorate their pots and dedicate them. The workshops are located inside the ArcelorMittal Dofasco Family Zone.

Books, books and more books

The Hamilton Public Library is hosting puppet shows, storytelling, an art exhibit and a sneak peak at the Telling Tales Children's Literary Festival. Young adult author Vikki VanSickle and illustrator Robin Baird Lewis will be leading interactive writing and illustration workshops.

First Book Canada will also be on hand with children's authors Joanne Levy, Lana Button, Nancy Hartry, Monica Kulling and Nan Forler to distribute books.

The Hamilton Public Library setup will be on York Boulevard between Macnab Street North and Park Street North.

That's just a few of the dozens of kid-friendly activities happening at the festival this weekend. For a full list head tothe Supercrawl website.
