As HSR strike deadline looms city tells residents to consider carpooling, walking

The city and union representing HSRworkers are set to return to the bargaining table Wednesday, but residents are being warned to prepare for a strike in case they can't reach a deal.

Bus drivers, mechanics and other transit workers represented by ATU Local 107 will be in a legal strike or lockout position as of 12:01 a.m. Thursday.

"Can I get to work? Will I get to school?" asks a notice that pops up when anyoneaccesses union'swebsite. It alsoalso calls on Hamiltonians to contact theircouncillors ASAP.

The city, meanwhile says it"remains hopeful that a negotiated settlement can be reached."

But in the event that doesn't happen and HSR service is suspended, customers are being told to consider other transportation options.

A press release from the city suggests carpooling with neighbours or coworkers, walking and cycling or working from home.

The city also promises details about any changes to service will be passed along before a labour disruption would begin.
