51-year-old man dies after incident at National Steel Car

After a workplace incident at National Steel Car on June 6, a51-year-old man hasdied.

After a workplace incident at National Steel Car on June 6, a51-year-old man hasdied.

The Coroner's office and the Ministry of Labour are investigating the death after emergency services were called to the scene just before 8 p.m. on Monday.

The man was transported to a local trauma centre with no vital signs by paramedics who continued to perform resuscitative efforts enroute, Dave Thompson, Hamilton EMS superintendent said.

Emergency services were called at 7:50 p.m. to respond to the industrial accident, where an object that fell was a bulkhead weighing approximately 2000 pounds, Hamilton Police Services said.

As the Ministry of Labour and Coroner's Office continue to investigate, there were no comments from National Steel Car at the time of publishing.

According to a post on its Facebook page,National Steel Car cancelled its Monday night shift and Tuesday day shifts.

This is the third death at National Steel Car in the last twoyears.

United Steelworkers (USW) called on the Ministry of Labour to carry out a health and safety review at National Steel Car following the workplace deaths of two employees.USW said Fraser Cowan died on Sept. 2, 2020, and Collin Grayley died on April 23, 2021.
