Bacon and eggs assault teen uses breakfast as weapon: police

AHamilton teenhas been charged, police say, after assaulting a man with his breakfast of bacon and eggs.

It happened Monday morning at a restaurant on thecorner ofKenilworthAvenue North and Barton Street East.

Police said in a release that witnesses reported the 19-year-oldwas sitting with a group of people at the restaurant when hebecame "agitated" with aman at his table.

He thenpicked up his breakfast in his handsand struck a29-year old man in the facewith his bacon and eggs.

The man became disoriented, police say, sufferingan injury and was sent to the hospital.

Hamilton Constable Steve Welton said, in an email, that itwas no accident.

"The weapon was in fact the food, and the intent was to cause injury or harm," Welton said. "It was not accidental in nature and officers investigated with evidence to support the charges."

Under Section 267 of the Canadian Criminal Code, a weapon in a case ofassaultis defined as "any thing used, designed to be used or intended for usein causing death or injury to any person, orfor the purpose of threatening or intimidating any person."

The 19-year old was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and failure to comply with probation. He is set to appear in court to answer the charges.
