See the Ticats' new home take shape

It's starting to look like a stadium.

Organizers of the2015 Pan Am Games treated reporters and cityofficials a tour on Thursday of the construction site for the tournament's soccer stadium, which will also serve under the name Tim Hortons Field as the new home for the CFL'sHamilton Tiger-Cats.

Located onCannon Street East at Balsam Avenue in east Hamilton, the construction site sits on the grounds of the formerIvorWynneStadium, theTicats' home since the team's inception.

Wearing hard hats and safety boots, visitorsmade the steep climb to the fourthlevel of the stadium's west stands, to visit what will become an open-concept entertainment and concession concourse.

Later, tour participants trudgedthrough the pit of dirt that will become the stadium's playing field.

TO2015 officials say the job is 50 per cent complete and that the stadium will be ready to open in June of next year.

"We know we've got to have this ready for June 30, 2014 for the 'Cats to take it over," said Ian Troop, CEO of TO2015, the organizing committee for the games."We started with that in mind and we're right on track."
