8th man charged with murder in prisoner death at Niagara Detention Centre

Niagara police say they have arrested and charged another man in the death of a 52-year-old prisoner.

That brings the total to eight, all of whom were also prisoners in the Niagara Detention Centre in Thorold, Ont., police spokespersonStephanieSabourin confirmed in an email.

As CBC News previously reported, the 52-year-olddied under "suspicious" circumstances in June, sparking an investigation. SinceFeb. 22, police have announcedthey are charging multiple people with second-degree-murderin connection to his death.

Late Friday afternoon, Niagara police announced a second-degree murder chargeagainst a44-year-old man fromPelham, Ont.

He was scheduledfor court on Saturday in St. Catharines.
