Hamilton high school receives bomb threat 2nd day in a row, police say

Students were evacuated from Nora Frances Henderson Secondary School in Hamilton on Friday after itreceived a bomb threat forthe second day in a row.

Hamilton police say the school became aware of the threat at about 8:45 a.m. and students left shortly after.

The emailed threat on Friday was similar toone received on Thursday, saidConst.IndyBharaj. Police are on scene.

"It causes parents to really worry about their kids and puts them in a difficult position about whether or not to send them to school," Bharaj said.

"Police will do our best to make the school a safe environment."

The threat on Thursday referred to a teacher who began working at the high school in September. The teacher had previously worked at a Halton school and garnered international media for wearing what appeared to be large prosthetic breasts.

Oakville Trafalgar High School receivedthreats resulting in police investigationsin late 2022.

Ashley Romanyshyn said her daughter, who is in Grade 9 at Nora Frances, was evacuated yesterday to a nearby elementary school.

"She came home and her eyes were all red from crying," Romanyshyn said. "It was really scary for her."

She kept her daughter home Friday, and said she was glad she did because of the second bomb threat. She's worried it will keep happening, disrupting students' education and having a toll on their mental health.

"It's not fair to the kids," she said. "It's the kids who are losing out."
