Police issue warrant for man they say shot 7-year-old boy

Hamilton police have issued a warrant for a man they say fired the shots that seriously injured a seven-year-old boy.

Jayden Pitter, 20, is facing a long list of charges including discharging a firearm with intent and careless use of a firearm, according to investigators.

Police described himas "dangerous" and warn anyone who sees him to call 911 right away.

Investigators allege he is the person who pulled the trigger outside a home on Gordon Street on the night of January 23 that left thechild seriously injured.

The boy was an unintended victim in the targeted incident, who police say was hit after bullets flew into the home through a window and the frame of the window on the main floor.

"This is unacceptable" said police deputy chief Frank Bergen at the time.

"This is the opportunity where we all stand down for a moment and say 'guns don't belong on our streets.'"

The child has left the hospital, but the service says he"faces a long road to recovery."

Police allege Pitterfired at the house several times from the backyard, then fled to a vehicle waiting on the street and sped away.

The getaway car has been identified, but the firearm that was used has not been recovered.

Pitter is facing the following charges:

• Discharging a firearm with intent.
• Aggravated assault.
• Criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
• Careless use of a firearm.
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm.
• Two counts of failing to comply with probation.
• Two counts of failing to comply with youth probation.
• Failure to comply with recognizance.
• Three counts of failing to comply with a prohibition order.

Investigators believe there are people who know what happened on the night of the shooting and they're continuing to ask them to come forward.
