5 guns found in Hamilton home where landlord shot and killed 2 tenants, SIU says

Ontario's police watchdog says it found five guns in the home whereaHamilton landlord shot and killed two renters.

Ontario's police watchdog says it found five guns in the home whereaHamilton landlord shot and killed two tenants.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) investigates when police fire their guns at someone and incidents involving policethat lead to death, serious injury or sexual assault.

After the landlord shot and killed27-year-old Carissa MacDonald and 28-year-oldAaron Stone, he was in an hours-long standoff with police.

He died after a shootout with officers.

The SIU said it collected five guns from the home and a police-issued gun so theCentre of Forensic Sciences can examine them.

Police previously said the man had barricaded himself with several firearms registered to him.

The special investigations unit is investigating after they say a man was killed during "an exchange of gunfire" with Hamilton police on Saturday May, 27, 2023. The man, police say, was suspected of killing a man and a woman who were renters in an east Hamilton home.

The agency also said the landlord's autopsy occurred Tuesdayand it won't be releasing the man's name as it needs consent from the man's family.

The SIU said it is probingeight officers, seven of whom were witnesses.

The agency didn't immediately answer questions from CBC Hamilton about how many have been interviewed.

Hamilton police, meanwhile, said officers have interviewed several witnesses, who have been cooperative.

The service added the victims's families are requesting privacy at this time.
