Niagara police share name of woman 3 months after she was killed in Smithville home

Niagara police have shared the name of a 62-year-old woman killed in her home in Smithville three-and-a-half months after her death.

Niagara police have shared the name of a 62-year-old woman killed in her home in Smithville more than threemonths after her death.

The police service says officers foundCathy Prosjedead inside her homenear LindanStreetand Alma Drive on April 26 at 12:33 p.m.

In May, police said the killing wasn't random anddidn't share her name "as there is not an investigative reason to do so."

Police spokesperson Stephanie Sabourin told CBC Hamilton, in an email,police are now sharingProsje's name after speaking with her family.

"Identifying a victim is often part of the ongoing investigation and is done in consultation with detectives and immediate family based upon the circumstances of the specific incident," Sabourin wrote.

Sabourin added police are still investigating the killer's motive.

Officers are looking to speak with anyone who may have had contact withProsjebefore her death.

Theyare also looking for her laptop, which officers say "may have been discarded, traded, sold, or at local pawn shops."

It'sdescribed as a Hewlett Packard Elite Book 840 G9 Notebook, silver with a 14-inch screen, with serial number 5CG3106K1J. A search of the serial number shows awarranty on the computer startedin March 2023.

Policesay whoever has that laptop should call police.
