Glenwood School, which has 21 students with pervasive special needs, is staying closed after a student tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday.

Hamilton-Wentworth District School Boardalso says ongoing staff absences playa factor in keeping the school closed.

"We are unable to provide appropriate staffing levels to ensure safety and support student programming. Remote learning will continue where possible," the board said in a statement.

"Student safety is our top priority. Our schools remain safe for staff working in our buildings and students with pervasive special education needs learning in person during this provincial order."

While Ontario is under a stay-at-home order that has most students learning remotely, those with special needs are allowed to learn in person.

There isalso mandatory masking for students from Grades 1 to 3 and requirements for mask wearing outside. Emergency child care will continue for eligible families during remote learning.
