New student case of COVID-19 at McMaster University

A student at McMaster University has tested positive forCOVID-19,the school's third case of the virus.

The universityissued a release on Wednesday, the same day it says it received confirmation of the positive test result.

The student was last on campus on Sept. 24 and the school says they "spent a short amount of time in the Psychology Building."

"The building has been thoroughly cleaned and the student had been following all required health and safety protocols while on campus," reads the release.

"When the university is notified that someone is awaiting test results and has been on campus, the areas where the person had been on campus in the past 72 hours are cleaned out of an abundance of caution. In the majority of cases the test results have been negative."

Public health is responsible for contact tracing and the school cleans and sanitizes the building. McMaster also has arapid response team.

Students, faculty and staff are required to complete a COVID-19 screening tool within one hour of any expected arrival at a McMaster facility and to follow any advice the screening provides.

Any contact tracing required is being managed by public health authorities. They will be directly contacting anyone who would be part of the tracing for this case.

Anemployee tested positive for the virus on Sept. 12 and a graduate student tested positive on Aug. 31.
