2 drivers caught stunt driving, going over double the speed limit: Hamilton police

Hamilton police have charged two people in separate stunt driving incidents after each were clockedgoing over double the speed limit.

On Tuesday, Nov. 19, around 11 p.m., aBinbrookpatrolofficer conducted speed enforcementaroundRegional Road 56 and Gold Club Road saw a silver Honda Pilot SUVthat appeared to be speeding. The officer found that the SUV was travelling at 128 km/hr in a 60 km/hr zone.

Police stopped and charged the driver, a 35-year-old Stoney Creek woman, with speeding and stunt driving.

That same night, before 11:30 p.m., the officer also saw a Honda Accord sedan going southbound on RR56at a speed that seemed faster than the posted limit. Police say that they found that the car was driving 131 km/hr in a posted 60 km/hr zone.

Police stopped and charged the driver, a 29-year-old Binbrook man, with speeding and stunt driving.

In accordance with the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, the drivers' licences were suspended for seven days and their vehicles impounded for that same amount of time.

They will appear in court in December. If found guilty, the penalties for stunt driving could include a fine between $2,000 and $10,000, up to six months in jail and a two-year licence suspension.
