A level four drought rating has been issued for the South Thompson.

What is a level four?

It's issued when conditions are extremely dry.

Further declines in stream, lake and aquifer levels could lead to water shortages and affect people and industry such as agriculture, wildlife, and fish stocks.

It also means regional water managers may take additional regulatory actions if they are deemed necessary.

That could include the temporary suspension of water licences.

John Innes believes there's more individuals can be doing to conserve water.

He is a forestry and sustainability expert and the Dean of the faculty of forestry at University of British Columbia.
