Michael F. Gibbon, 60, identified as man killed by arrow in Kitchener, Ont.

Michael F. Gibbon, 60, is the man who died after being shot with an arrow in downtown Kitchener on Monday morning, the Waterloo Regional Police Service says.

Gibbon was found on the lawn of a house at 387 Margaret Ave. about 7:00 a.m. Monday by neighbours.

Police have closed part of the street near the incident.No one is in custody in connection with the death.

"At this early stage in the investigation, the risk to public safety is not yet known. The public should be vigilant, aware of their surroundings and are asked to report any suspicious activity to police," police said in a statement.

Police and emergency medical responders were called to the sceneand took the man to hospital.

'Trepidation and uncertainty'

Blair Wendell, a neighbour of the deceased, said he saw Gibbon being taken away on a stretcher while someone held his hand. He was pronounced dead from his injuries at hospital.

"These types of incidents bring trepidation and uncertainty", said police Chief BryanLarkin. "We live in a very safe community and the public can rest assured that our members are committed to a thorough investigation and to restoring a sense of calm."

Homicide detectives are part of the investigation team and may be on the scene for several days, Larkin said in a release.

Policehave set up a command centrein the neighbourhood and appealed to the public to come forward with information about the incident.
