New COVID-19 outbreak declared at Cambridge long-term care home

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at PeopleCareHilltop Manor in Cambridge after a staff member tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The outbreak was declared on Monday and reported by Region of Waterloo Public Health on its website on Tuesday. Currently, no one living at the long-term care home has tested positive.

The outbreak at Hilltop Manor is the only active outbreak in Waterloo region.

On Tuesday, the region saw an increase in two COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of positive cases since March to 1,346. Of those cases, 88 per cent have been marked as resolved.

The number of deaths did not increase on Tuesday and remains at 118. As well, 11 people arein hospital with COVID-19.

Public health reports that half of the region's cases, 50 per cent, are linked to an outbreak at a long-term care or retirement home or workplace.

The other half are either from community spread (27 per cent), close contact with someone who has the virus (19 per cent) or travel (four per cent).
