Three people have been charged after attempting to take a bicycle left out by Guelph Police, the force says.

On Friday, officers from the force's high enforcement action team (HEAT) put a bait bicycle in the city's downtown core and then members of the team kept an eye on it.

The bait bike was set up on Friday and at 7:10 p.m. that day, a 25-year-old Guelph man allegedly damaged the bike while removing the cable that was around the bicycle and then quickly left the area. The man was arrested on Saturday and has been charged with theft under $5,000, mischief under $5,000 and two counts of breach of probation.

Then at 8:30 p.m., a man and woman were seen removing the lock from the bait bicycle and then stealing it. Both were arrested and during the arrest, officers discovered a small quantity of crystal meth.

A 37-year-old Guelph man has been charged with possession of stolen property, theft under $5,000, breach of probation and possession of a controlled substance.
