6 month pilot project in Elmira to offer free bus service

A six-month-long pilot project in Elmira will offer free bus rides in the community as of Sept. 4.

Transit users in Elmira will have a chance to ride for free as Kiwanis Transit prepares tolaunch a six-month pilot that will offer free rides in the community.

The free bus service will be available for anyone in the Elmira community to use. The program aims to run from Sept. 4 to March 2, 2019 in an effort to boost ridership.

During the six-month pilot, the bus service will operate on a schedule from Monday to Saturday with departures as early as 7:39 a.m on weekdays and 8:05 a.m. on Saturday.

Its circular route will start and end at the Woolwich Township office, which is also aGrand River Transit bus stop,and make a number of stops throughoutElmira.

"This will allow easier access to GRT Route 21 bus stop locations and access to downtown and perimeter businesses," Kiwanis Transit said in a release.
