Polka King Walter Ostanek takes home lottery grand prize

Grammy-winning polka musician Walter Ostanek can add another prize to his long list of accomplishments he won the top prize in a London, Ont., hospital lottery.

The winning ticket for the Dream Lottery, which benefits the London Hospital Foundation, was pulled Tuesday morning, announcing Ostanek of St. Catharines had won the grand prize.

Ostanek, known as the Polka King, has been nominated for a Grammy 13 times winning three. He is also a well-known face around Kitchener-Waterloo during Oktoberfest.

The hospital foundation issued a chequefor a million dollars inOstanek's name, but he could have also chosen from one of three homes as his prize.

Dale Wilson of London won the lottery's 50/50 draw, taking home $475,935.Neither man was immediately available for foundation officials to congratulate them.

Susan Crowley, president and CEO of the Children's Health Foundation, thanked those who bought tickets.

"Funds from Dream Lottery help kids of all ages with all conditions to get better faster and return home to family and friends," she said.
