Thieves try to steal ATM from Kitchener bar, say police

Police are investigating after there was another attempt to steal a bank machine from a Kitchener bar on the weekend, the latest in a rash of thefts dating back to the end of January.

Police are investigating after there was another attempt to steal a bank machine from a Kitchener bar on the weekend, the latest in a rash of thefts dating back to the end of January.

Officers were called to Howl at the Moon on Victoria Street North at 6:15 a.m. Saturday, to discover thesuspects had attempted to remove the ATM from the lobby of the restaurant.

String of thefts

The attempted theft is the latest in a series of bank machine thefts.

On Feb. 21 at 5:30 a.m., police interrupted thieves trying to take a bank machine from the Fairview Park mall.

Previously, a bank machine was stolen from a FreshCogrocery storeon University Avenue in Waterloo on Feb. 19, one was stolen from the Stampede Corral in Kitchener on Feb. 17, and two were stolen when a truck was driven through a set of doors at the Kitchener Auditorium on Feb. 3.

On Jan. 27, in Guelph,a truck attempted to pull a bank machine from inside the front doors of the Manor, a localstrip club. In that case, the thieves pulled the machine behind their black pick-up truck, but lost it when police officers pursued them.

No arrests have been made in any of the cases and police continue to investigate.
