Waterloo region's federal election candidates discuss the issues

Federal election candidates from across Waterloo region joined The Morning Edition with host Craig Norris this week to talk about the issues. (Kate Bueckert/CBC)

The candidates from the five ridings in Waterloo region joined The Morning Edition's host Craig Norris to talk about the issues important to voters.

Candidates from the five main partieswere invited to be part of the panels. Those included the candidates from the Liberals, Conservatives, Green Party, NDP and People's Party of Canada.

Cambridge

Five of the federal election candidates for Cambridge discussed cost of living as well as the opioid crisis. In a separate answer following the panel, they were asked about climate change.

The five candidates on the panel were: Liberal Bryan May, Conservative Sunny Attwal, NDP's Scott Hamilton, Michele Braniff of the Green Party and David Haskell of the People's Party.

Manuel Couto of the Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada and George McMorrow of the Veterans Coalition Party of Canada are also on the ballot in Cambridge.

Kitchener Centre

The federal electioncandidates for Kitchener Centre were asked about the environment, abortion and the cost of living. In a separate interview, they were asked about Kitchener council considering a tax levy.

The five candidates on the panel were: Liberal Raj Saini, Conservative Stephen Woodworth, NDP's Andrew Moraga, Mike Morrice of the Green Party and Patrick Bernier of the People's Party.

Ellen Papenburg of the Animal Protection Party of Canada is also on the ballot in Kitchener Centre.

Kitchener-Conestoga

The federal election candidates for Kitchener-Conestoga discussed the rise in the cost of living.

Kitchener South-Hespeler

The federal election candidates for Kitchener South-Hespeler talked about the rise in gun violence in Waterloo region and how to address it, climate change and the cost of living.

The four candidates who took part in the panel were: Liberal Marwan Tabbara, Conservative Alan Keeso, David Weber of the Green Party and Joseph Todd of the People's Party.

NDP candidate Wasai Rahimi was unable to join the panel. Elaine Baetz of the Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada and Matthew Correia of the Veteran's Coalition Party of Canada are also on the ballot in Kitchener South-Hespeler.

Waterloo

The federal election candidates for Waterloo discussed climate change and how their parties would help university and college students who face an uncertain future.
