Outbreak declared at Junior's Sports Bar and Grill in Cambridge

People who were at Junior's Sportsbar and Grill in Cambridge from Oct. 17 up to, and including, Oct. 22 may have been exposed to COVID-19, Region of WaterlooPublic Health says.

Public healthdeclared a workplace outbreakat the Cambridge restaurant.

On Tuesday, officials said five staff cases had been reported. In four of the cases, they said individuals were not vaccinated.

As of Wednesday's update on the region's COVID-19 dashboard, there was one additional case, bringing the total number of cases linked to the outbreak to six.

Health officials said people who visited the restaurantare considered to be high risk contacts.

"These individuals are advised to self-isolate and seek testing immediately," public health said in a news release Tuesday.

"Public health is supporting the workplace to inform all affected patrons of the exposure and will be following up with all high risk contacts."

Public health adds interactions outside of the workplace in some of the cases have contributed to the outbreak as well.

The restaurant has closedvoluntarily and staff have co-operatedwith regional health officials. Public health said it isworking closely with the restaurantto implement strongerinfection prevention.

Public health says itwill continue to providesupport to the restaurant. It also "strongly recommends"that all workplaces have policy options that "would facilitate the highest vaccination coverage possible."

9 new cases, 1 death

The region reported nine new cases of COVID-19 in the region in Wednesday's update.

There was also one death reported, a woman in her 40s.

"Iwish to express my deep sympathy to the family and loved ones of the individual," the region's medical officer of health Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang said in a statement.

There were 96 active cases and 11 people were in the region's three hospitals infectious with the virus.

There were three other outbreaks also reported on Wednesday:

• One at a construction workplace with two cases.
• One at Breslau Public School with three cases.
• One at Conestogo Public School with two cases.

The Waterloo Region District School Board also reported an outbreak atGalt Collegiate Institute in Cambridge. The outbreak involves one cohort and is not school-wide.
