Guns seized, students warned after robbery at house party near Fanshawe

Police are issuing a warning to students after firearms were seized and robbery charges laid following a weekend party near Fanshawe College.

Some guest may arrive 'with the sole intention to violently rob the occupants,' police say

London police are issuing a warning to students after an attempted robbery near FanshaweCollege early Sunday resulted in charges to seven people and the seizure of three firearms.

Police were called to a large student partyon Thurman Circle, nearCheapsideStreet andFanshaweCollege Blvd., at around 2 a.m. Police saytwo occupantsof a house were assaulted by several uninvited guests and personal items were stolen.

Police say two men also suffered minor injuries.

Suspects scattered in various directions when police arrived, with some running into a stranger's home on Fleming Drive, where police arrested three people.

Others were arrested as they tried to get into a taxi cab. Police arrested two other suspects with the help of FanshaweCollege Campus Security Services at a nearby park.

Two firearms were seized from one suspect and one was seized from another.

With students at Western and Fanshawe set to begin classes next week, police are issuing a warning to students planning to host a house party.

"It's important that when you have gatherings at your home, that you only allow entry to the individuals who were invited,"Det.-Sgt. Blair Harvey said. "Students should be extremely careful when hosting a party. There are some people who may attend with the sole intention to violently rob the occupants."

The seven men charged range in age from 17 to 21. They face various charges, including conspiracy to commit robbery, firearms offences, bail violations and theft.

All were scheduled to appear in court Monday.
