13-year-old arrested after St. John's High School fight that prompted lockdown

Winnipeg police arrested a 13-year-old boy, who faces several weapons-related charges, after a man was injured during an altercation nearSt. John's High School Thursday.

The incident prompted the Church Avenue school to go into lockdown for about 20 minutes.

Police arrived at a park near St. John's around 12:45 p.m. Thursday, after learning an adult male had received an upper-body injury.

Investigators say the man had entered the school area to confront a student and that he was not a staff member or a student.

After what police described as an "altercation," the adult man was brought to hospital and is now in stable condition.

Three others were brought to hospital as a precaution after being pepper sprayed.

The lockdown at St. John's was followed by a hold-and-secure procedure, where students were not allowed to leave the building until about mid-afternoon.

The arrested 13-year-old has since been released on a promise to appear in court.
