Thomas Omwenga of Hamilton, Ont., finished the men's full marathon first with an official time of 2:34:17.8, according to the marathon's website.

Heather Magill of Grand Forks, N.D., won the women's full marathon with an official time of 2:54:24.9.

Winnipeggers won in the half-marathons: Abduselam Yussuf won the men's race with an official time of 1:05:28.8, while Darolyn Walker won the women's half with a time of 01:23:29.9.

Stories from the finish line

Among those who took part in the marathon was Winnipeg's Jeff Vince, who ran in his 65th race and his 25th Manitoba Marathon. He finished with a time of 4:57:08.

At just over 42 kilometres each, 65 marathons adds up to about 2,743 kilometres.

George Steciuk, 78, completed the half-marathon on Sunday. He got bib number3737.

"It's the 37th running of the Manitoba Marathon, and I was born in '37. That makes me 78, so I thought, 'Well, I gotta run!' That's why I put those two numbers on there," said Steciuk, who has previously run in five and 10-kilometre races.

"This may be the last one; I'll see. I told my wife maybe when I'm 80, I'll try the full. But after, I'm not sure."

Patricia Smith of Thompson, Man., participated inthe 2.6-mile Super Run. Her daughter, Deborah, and granddaughter Amalie ran in the 10-kilometre race, while another granddaughter, Sarah, ran in the half-marathon.

"They really encouraged me, and next yearI want togo in the 10," Patricia said.

"We're three generations now. I just love running a lot of motivation here."

When asked how her run went, she said, "It went very well. I ran most of the way; about halfway. And I enjoyed being down here in Winnipeg and watching, you know, the scenery as you run."

Also running on Sunday were themembers of the CBC Manitoba Storm Chasers: John Sauder, Jill Coubrough, Leif Larsen, Janice Moeller and Day Scarlett.

The CBC squad ranked 352nd out of 491 relay teams with an official time of 4:38:20.7.
