Thousands of athletes pound the pavement during the 2016 Manitoba Marathon

Thousands of people have tied up their laces and are hitting the pavement for the 2016 Manitoba Marathon.

Around 14,000 runners took to the road in the Fort Rouge area

Thousands of people tied up their laces and hitthe pavement for the 2016 Manitoba Marathon.

The annual marathon saw about 14,000 runners take to the road in the Fort Rouge area.

The Father's Day celebration of fitness started with the Mini Mites Fun Run and a wheelchair marathon and half-marathon.

As the morning went on the runners in the 26.2-mile marathon, the half-marathon, and the relay exploded from the starting line.

The last to take off were the athletes taking part in the 10kilometre and 2.6-mile Super Run.
