His name was Nour, which in Arabic, means "light." The 42-year-old Syrian refugee arrived in Winnipeg in December 2012 with his family, ready to begin a new life.

Nour Ali lived a life dedicated to helping others; before coming to Canada, he was invested in human rights movements in Syria.

That didn't change when he moved to Winnipeg. His family was sponsored by a Mennonite church in Manitoba, and once settled into his new home, Ali wanted to pay it forward.

Ali treated the opportunity for his family to come to Canada as a gift, and he wanted to share it with as many people as he could.

Blood drives, community cleanups, homemade meal deliveries; these are just a few ways Ali gave back to the community.

Over the years, he became a pillar of support and kindness in Manitoba's refugee community. It wasn't uncommon to see him at the airport at all hours of the day to welcome a new family.

All The Light You Leave: The Nour Ali Story details the remarkable life he lived, and the legacy he left behind after a tragic boating accident on Lake Winnipeg claimed his life.

Through interviews with the people closest to him, the film captures the impact Ali had on the many lives he helped.
