The funds are part of a 20-yearplan to encourage walking and cycling in Winnipeg.

The city says they heard opinionsfrom thousands of Winnipeggers,which helped them develop long and short term strategies to get people out and active.

The plan includes expanding the bicycle and sidewalk network,bicycle parking,a facelift topedestrian and cyclistcrossings, safe andwell-lit routes, facilities for pedestrians and cyclistsandmaintenance for the bicycle and sidewalk network.

According to the city, consideration will be given to this commitmentin the yearly budgeting process and the use of fundswill be approved by council on a yearly basis through the pedestrian and cycling action plan.
