New Assiniboine Park attraction The Leaf temporarily closed following burst pipe

Less than a month after opening,The Leafthe long-awaited new horticultural attraction at Winnipeg's Assiniboine Parkis temporarily closed due to a burst pipe.

On Christmas Day, Assiniboine Park and Zoo announced on social mediathat The Leaf experienced a burst pipe and clean water leak, and it will be closed on Monday and Tuesday as a result.

The Leaf's restaurant, Gather Craft Kitchen and Bar, will be closed until Thursday, according to the director of communications for the Assiniboine Park Conservancy, Laura Cabak.

She said theleak originated in the roof above the event hall.

That halland the restaurant below were impacted, but the repairs required are cosmetic in nature, Cabak said.

The four biomes, with plants and trees from around the world,were not affected at all because the leak was in a different part of the building, she added.

The event hall is still being assessed and a date for re-opening will be determined soon.

The closure comes less than a month after The Leaf opened, following a two-year delay.

It was originallyplanned to open in late 2020, and hadan initial price tag of $75 million, but faced constructiondelays.

Assiniboine Park says those who had tickets to visit The Leaf on Monday or Tuesdaymust request a refund online, as the horticultural centre can't automatically refund or transfer tickets to another day.
