Bouncer found not guilty in death of man outside Bar Italia

A Winnipeg jury has found Nick Somers not guilty in the death of a man who was found injured outside Bar Italia.

A Winnipeg jury has found Nick Somers not guilty in the death of a man who was found injured outside Bar Italia in July of 2010.

According to evidence heard at the trial,Gary Rent, 33,died of blunt force trauma to the head.

The Crown argued Rent was pushed from behind and he hit his head on the Corydon Avenue sidewalk.

The jury's verdict came after an intense trial that examined video from security cameras in the area of the bar and heard from witnesses who said Rent was very angry when he went to the bar.

The jury also heard that Rent haddouble the legal-limit (for driving) of alcohol in his body along with some tranquilizers.

Some members of Somers' family, who were in court to hear the verdict, were visibly pleased with the verdict and openly wept at the outcome.
