Fire set during break-in at vacant Winnipeg business

A break-in and fire inside a vacant building under renovation sent Winnipeg police racing to Regent Avenue on Sunday.

A break-in and fire inside a vacant building under renovationsent Winnipeg police racing to Regent Avenue onSunday.

Sixmembers of the police service were thenexposed to a hazardous chemical and required treatment, though none needed to be hospitalized.

Officerswere called to the former site of the Canada OneRV lot on Regentat BienvenueStreetin theTranscona area, just after 11:30 a.m.

The chemical exposure came during afollow-up investigation while the WPS members were in the building. The Winnipeg Fire ParamedicService's hazmat unit was called in to treatthe victims.

Police did not say what chemical the members were exposed to.

Damage to the property isestimated at $15,000.
