Bridge Drive-In goes mobile with new ice cream truck

Goog addicts rejoice.

That crazy concoction a blueberry milkshake with sliced bananas, and a hot fudge sundae topped with nuts, whipped cream and a cherry has gone mobile.

"Now we can bring the Bridge to the people," said BDIco-owner Justin Jacob.

The new food truck took its inaugural run this past weekend in Winnipeg at the corner of Graham Avenue and Garry Street.

"It's been really good. It's kind of a different change of pace," Jacob said.

Jacob isapplying for a large-volume street permit from the City of Winnipeg, which would give the truck permission to park on Broadway.

Jacob and his co-owner andwife Jessica, havebeen wanting to expand their ice-cream business for more than a year. The original location on Jubilee Avenue has been open since 1957.

The couple wanted to add a second location somewhere in Winnipeg but couldn't find a suitable spot. Last fall the couple began researching the food truck business.

They found Pizza Trucks of Canada, a food truck manufacturer based in Dugald, Man.

Goog to Go was designed to look like the Jubilee Avenue location. The facade looks like white bricks with a red and white striped awning.

The couple also has plans to attach a jumbo foam Goog to the roof of truck's cab.

Goog to Go has 10 soft serve flavours,15 milkshakes, sundaes and several specialty treats like the Goog.

The couple is still figuring out a schedule for the truck. They hope to appear at festivals and on city streets. They will also offer catering, including weddings, Justin said.

Winnipeg currently has about 40 food trucks. Many of them will appear at Manyfest's Food Truck Wars which runs Sept.9 to 11 on Broadway.
