Woman, 36, charged after $30,000 stolen from Carberry Curling Club: Manitoba RCMP

A 36-year-old woman is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from her southwestern Manitoba town's curling club and using public funds to pay itback, RCMP say.

RCMPreceived a report on Dec. 7 that a significant amount of money had been stolen from the Carberry Curling Club over the previous year, and the club's former treasurer was suspected.

The woman is accused of stealing about $30,000 from the curling club while she was in the volunteer treasurer position, RCMP said in a news release on Thursday.

Police believe she left the club's treasurer role and used moneyfrom the rural municipality of North Cypress-Langford, where she was chief administrative officer at the time, to pay it back.

She is charged with theft over $5,000 and has been released from custody.

She's scheduled to appear in a Brandon court in early April.
