Winnipeg teen picked 2nd overall, 2 other teammates chosen in Western Hockey League draft

Winnipeg teen hockey star Carson Lambos, chosen second overall, was among three Winnipeggersfrom the same team selected in the Western Hockey League first-round draft Thursday.

TheKootenayIce drafted Lambos. The 15-year-old, six-foot, 190-pound defenceman is currently the captain of the Bantam Prep team at Winnipeg's Rink Hockey Academy.

Goalie Tyler Brennan was picked 21st overall by the Prince George Cougars. Heplays for the same team as Lambosand has registered a 1.52 goals against average, 0.946 save percentage and five shutouts thisseason.

The Moose Jaw Warriors selected Eric Alarie 22ndin the first round. The forward also currently plays for the BantamPrep team at Rink Hockey Academy, where he's put up 28 goals and 27 assists in 30 games this season.

Lambos follows in the WHL footsteps of his brother, Jonathon Lambos, who plays for the junior league's Brandon Wheat Kings.

Carson Lambosiscurrently captain of his teamand has been praised for his leadership and on-ice expertise. He has also attracted attention from American hockey scoutsand has said he hopes to one day play in the National Hockey League.

The KootenayIce are based in Cranbrook, B.C., about 210 kilometres southwest of Calgary.
