CN police officer faces drunk driving charges after RCMP say he blew more than twice the legal limit

An on-duty CN police officer is facing impaired driving charges after blowing over twice the legal limit, Blue Hills RCMP say.

The 42-year-old man was driving alongthe Trans-Canada Highway around 9:45 a.m. on Nov. 6 when Mounties received a call from another motorist concerned by his erratic driving east of Brandon. The caller identified the vehicle in question as amarked police SUV, according to a news release on Friday.

The caller followed the vehicle for a short time before losing sightof it.

RCMP identified the vehicle as belonging to CN police and located it at a home in Brandon. The officer was arrested for drunk driving, Mounties said.

He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Brandon Provincial Court on Jan. 2, 2025.

The name of the officer will be provided once charges are formally laid, RCMP say.

Manitoba's police watchdog, the Independent Investigation Unit, was also notified the day of the officer's arrestand ismonitoring the investigation.
