One man is dead and another man is fighting for his life in hospital after a crash on Corydon Avenue early Sunday morning.

Winnipeg police say speed appears to have been a factor in the single-vehicle crash.

One man who lives in the area told CBC he felt his house shake at the time of the incident.

Alidad Khavarilives onEdgeland Boulevard and said a "big sound" woke him up.

"I jumped and came out and saw the pick up truck had jumped in front of the building," saidKhavari.

He said between 10 and 20 people rushed to the crash to try to help the two passengers.

"Nobody could get the door open because it was locked," saidKhavari.

"We called out a lot but no one would answer ....police came and told people to give space and ambulance is coming and they started helping."

Two men were rushed to hospital in critical condition. At about 10 a.m., police said one of the men has died of his injuries.

Friends tell CBC the man who died was Cody Galbraith.He isbeing remembered as a"beloved friend"whoknew all the rules but preferred to livelife on the edge wroteCasandra Kakaygeesick-Bingham on her Facebook page.

"Cody was such a rebel child!!" Kakaygeesick-Bingham wrote.

"If this has taught me anything it's to stop letting so much time go by before seeing a friend because we never know when our time will be up!!"

"Still can't believe it, another life lost way to soon. RIP to a longtime childhood friend," wrote Tyler Boychuk on his Facebook page Sunday.

Friends also confirm the other crash victim, Jordan Allarie,is still in hospital.

"This was a very a violent collision, and it is very sad for us to report that a 25-year-old male has lost his life as a result of this collision, and another 25-year-old male is still fighting for his life,"Const. JasonMichalyshensaid.

Investigators believe the vehicle hit the boulevard while travelling east down Corydon before hitting a tree, then a beam and finally a fence. The truck rolled and ultimately came to a stop next to an apartment building, which it made contact with.

"Our thoughts are certainly with their family," Michalyshen said. "We'redoing everything we can to identify what's taken place, and we're going to support the family in every way we can."

Michalyshen said based on thedebris and trail ofdamage in the area, officers are thankful no one else was injured.

Investigatorsdon't yet knowwhether alcohol played a factor or if the men were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, he said.

Corydonis closedbetween Doncaster and Edgeland Boulevard and police are asking drivers to avoid the area.
