Dennis Quaid movie searches for 2,000 paid extras in Winnipeg

A new feature film starring Dennis Quaid is looking for 2,000 people of all shapes and sizes.

Casting call for a variety of people including real police officers, fire fighters and clowns

A new Dennis Quaid movie is looking for thousands of paid extras to appear in the film over the next few months.

A Dog's Purposeis based on a New York Times bestsellerandwill be shooting in Winnipeg from August through October.

The casting company is looking for Winnipeggers of all ages, male orfemale, with no experience necessary.

In a release, casting agency Kari Casting said it is looking for a variety of "wholesome, friendly looking people both male and female of all ages and ethnic backgrounds to play as regular town folk."

It is also looking for real police officers, fire fighters, teenage football players, coaches and clowns.

A Dog's Purposetakes place over several decades from the late 1960s to 1990s.

Anyone interested in appearing in the film is asked to attend a one-day casting call at the Fairmont Winnipeg onSunday, Aug.9, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30p.m.

Application forms will be available in person or downloadable from the Kari Castingwebsite.

"We haven't worked on a production where we've been required to have this many extras in a while," said Leah Erum, with the casting agency. "There's quite a few scenes outside. The big chunk of it will be sort of a stadium scene the football."

Dennis Quaid was last in Winnipeg filming The Horsemanin the winter of 2008.

He remarked he had never been in the kind of cold he experienced in Winnipeg during the shooting of that film.

Several famous actors have filmed in Winnipeg since 2004. (CBC News Graphics)
