Doug McNeil officially hired as Winnipeg's new CAO

Doug McNeil is officially the newchief administrative officer (CAO) for the City of Winnipeg.

City Councillors on Wednesday unanimously approved the choice of McNeil asrecommended bythe city's selection committee and executive policy committee.

McNeil, who was the deputy minister in Manitoba's Infrastructure and Transportation department, will start his new job April 7.

Prior to that, he worked for the ManitobaFloodwayAuthority and the city's water and waste department.

The city's formerCAO,DeepakJoshi, resigned in mid-February after being suspended by Mayor Brian Bowman.

The mayor said he had"lost confidence" inJoshi'scapacity to serve as actingCAObutneverelaborated on why he feltthat way, citing human resources matters.

Joshireplaced PhilSheegl, who resigned in October 2013, days before a scathing audit into real estate deals was released.
