Family marks sad anniversary of missing Winnipeg woman

The family of a missing woman held a vigil Saturday to mark five and a half years since she was last seen.

Claudette Osborne was 21 when she went missing in Winnipeg in July 2008.

In spite of police and community efforts, no trace of her has ever been found.

About 40 people gathered in Winnipeg'sNorth End at the corner of King Street and Selkirk Avenue where Osborne was last seen.

Osborne's sister,Bernadette Smith, said friends and family feel that someone knows something about what happened, and they won't stop these public displays until those responsible are found.

"Just to remind whoever is responsible for her not being home with us, that we're not going to give up," she said. "We're still here. We're going to keep creating awareness, not only for our family but for other families. And we'll keep doing this until she's brought home."

Smith said there is special grief in knowing Osborne's not the only lost loved one.

"These women and men are somebody's sons, daughters, fathers, grandfathers, their cousins, their children," she said. "They're loved and missed. They're not just disposable. We're here everyday. We miss her everyday and we're waiting for her to come home."
