Winnipeg fire crews responded to a blaze at an oil seed processing plant located in the St. Boniface industrial area on Monday evening.

Crews were called out to the Friendly Family Farms Oil Seed Processors location on the 500 block of Dawson Road North just after 6 p.m.

When they arrived there was heavy smoke coming out of the processor cooker on the outside of the building.

People had already evacuated the attached building, Winnipeg FireParamedicService said, and there were no injuries.

Dawson Road was closed at Marion Street as multiple fire trucks responded, with fire hoses crossing the road. Police and paramedics responded to the scene.

Fire crews were able to get the blaze under control and removed the plant's remaining productfrom the area.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and there is no estimate on the cost of damages.
