2 suspects charged in fatal West End shooting of George Prieston

Winnipeg police have arrested two men in connection with afatal shooting that happened on Wellington Avenue this week.

Police found 29-year-oldGeorgePrieston critically wounded at a home in the 600 block of Wellington Avenueafter reports of gunfire at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Priestonwas taken to hospitalwith gunshot woundsto the upper body but died of his injuries.

Police made two arrests on the night of the shooting.On Saturday, police revealed the names of thesuspectsarrestedin what is now a homicide investigation.

Two 25-year-old men Raymond Ducharme and Shawn Poitrahave been charged with first-degree murder, probation violation and cruelty to animals.

The latter charge stems from injuries Prieston's dog sustainedat the home on Wellington.It had been shot and was later put down due to itsinjuries.

A military-style assault rifle with a high-capacity magazine was use in the shooting, police said. However, investigators still haven't located the gun.

Ducharme and Poitra remain in police custody.
