Heat cranks back up in Manitoba as temperatures soar

The summer of heat waves continues in Manitoba as temperatures are set to soar once again.

The summer of heat waves continues in Manitoba as temperatures are set to soar once again.

Environment Canada has issuedheat warnings for most of the western and southern regions of the province, as a hot air massspreadsinto Manitoba from Saskatchewan.

For the next couple of days, the daytime highs will be surpass 30 C with humidex values making it feel like 40.

The heat warning is in place for the southwestern part of the province, from the U.S. border to as far north as The Pas.

It also includes much of south-central Manitoba, including Winnipegand areas just east of the city, and extending into the south Interlake.

In Winnipeg, highs are expected to hit 29 C Thursday, says CBC meteorologist John Sauder.He's forecasting hot and humid conditions into the weekend, witha high of33 C on Friday and 32 C on Saturday.

A cold front is expected to pass through Saturday evening, Sauder said.

More seasonal daytime highs are expected for Sunday and Monday.

Thunderstorm warnings

Environment Canada has also issued severe thunderstorm warnings for some areas.

As of 5:30 p.m. Thursday, areas under a thunderstorm warning include:

  • Kinonjeoshtegon (Jackhead) First Nation.
  • RM of Grahamdale, including Gypsumville,Moosehorn and Camper.
  • RM of West Interlake, includingEriksdale and Ashern.

Environment Canada lifted earlier thunderstorm watches for several other areas, including Winnipeg.
