A teen has been arrested after a 17-year-old boy died after being stabbed on Sunday.

Winnipeg Police spokesperson Const. Tammy Skrabeksaid police were called on Sunday around 3:40 a.m. to a residenceon Court Avenue between McPhillips Street and Pipeline Road. There, they found a 17-year-old boy outsidein critical condition "with injuries consistent with being stabbed."

Skrabek said a boy, also 17, was arrested and charged with manslaughter. Both were from Winnipeg.

Skrabek said it wasn't clear if the two knew each other before the incident. She said both were at the house but wouldn't call it a party, instead saying it was a "large gathering."

Police couldn't say what prompted the attack.

"Other than the information that it was a large gathering of people, whether it was intended to be a party or a get-together or a grouping of people, it was a majority of young people," said Skrabek. "It's not clear whether there was an argument that precipitated, or if it was an altercation or a conflict or how it came to the events that occurred there."

Skrabek said the boy was found outside by emergency respondersbutthe fight started inside the house.

Neither the victim nor the suspect had prior records, said Skrabek. The suspect was arrested on scene.

The road between McPhillips Street and Pipeline Road was closed while police investigated on Sunday.
