Human rights museum still $25M short

Canada's newest national museum is still short of money.

Fundraisers for the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg said Wednesday they are within reach of their goal of $150 million in private donations, but are still $25 million shy.

The museum, set to open in 2013, will be the country's first national museum outside of the Ottawa region.

Federal, provincial and municipal governments have already committed $160 million, and the federal government will cover operating costs estimated at $21 million a year.

The late media mogul Izzy Asper spearheaded the project, which has been hit byescalating construction costs.
