Neighbours shocked to see heavy police presence

Cole Depape, who lives next door to the home where the attack happened, said the couple who lived there moved in a while ago.

He described them as around 25 or 30 years old, and he thought they had a tenant in the house as well.

Depape said he slept through the commotion and was surprised to see the police cars this morning.

"It's pretty confusing," he said. "I'm sure we'll see it on the news. It's definitely a different scene to wake up to."

Amanda Vermette said by the time she woke up in the normally "very pleasant" neighbourhood, the whole street was taped off with police tape.

She said someone knocked on her door at 6:30 a.m. but she was too scared to answer it.

She found out later it was police and that all her neighbours had police at their doors, too.

Vermette said the couple did have a tenant living in the basement.

She said she's a worried about what might have happened in the house.

"Kind of weary about it," she said. "Not quite sure what to think. I guess we'll see what happens. Hopefully it's nothing gang related."
