Alcohol may have contributed to 2 deadly weekend crashes, Manitoba RCMP say

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the deaths of two men in separate cases one involving an off-road vehicle, the othera pickup truck over the long weekend.

RCMP say a 51-year-old man was found dead under an overturned off-road vehicle in a gully in the rural municipality of Gimli around 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

The man's body was found 150 metres away from a property off 105 Road N. People at the property had reported him missing after he did not return from a ride the previous night, police said in a news release.

Then around 6 p.m. Sunday, Lac du Bonnet RCMP were called to Sunlee Road in the Rural Municipality of Alexander, where two men had fallen offtheboxof a pickup truck.

A 29-year-old man from the rural municipality of Springfieldwas pronounced dead at the scene. A 27-year-old man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The men had been sitting on the side of the box as the truck was drivenfrom one home to another and fell off, police said.

No charges have been laid at this time, but RCMP said the driver of the truck a 26-year-old woman from Winnipeg is being investigated for impaired driving.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in both cases, which are under investigation, police said.
