Manitoba election: Selinger touts NDP accomplishments at chamber breakfast

Manitoba NDP Leader Greg Selinger touted his party's economic accomplishments and promises to an audience of business leaders on Wednesday, less than a day after taking part in the televised leaders' debate.

Manitoba NDP Leader Greg Selinger touted his party's economic accomplishments and promises to an audience of business leaders on Wednesday, the day after the televised leaders' debate.

Selinger was the featured speaker in the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce leaders series breakfast in downtown Winnipeg.

During his address, he outlined the NDP government's accomplishments and strategic investments and said if re-elected, the party will work with the federal government to fund construction of the Chief Peguis Trail extension.

He spoke of working with and consulting First Nations in development projects and highlighted the NDP's commitment to health care and child care.

Alluding to his rivals, Selinger said now is not the time for Manitoba's economy to deal with government cuts.

After he finished speaking, Selinger told reporters he believes the NDP'smessage is getting through.

"The audience gave me good feedback. They want to know that we have a solid plan for growing the economy," he said.

"We presented that plan today. I gave specific examples of how we can do that with infrastructure, strategic infrastructure."

Selinger is the last of three provincial party leaders to appear at a Manitoba Chambers of Commerce breakfast during the election campaign. PC Leader Brian Pallister spoke to chamber members on March 30, while Liberal Leader Rana Bokhari spoke on April 6.

Selinger'sappearance came after he squared off against Pallister, Bokhari and Green Party Leader James Beddome inthe CTV/Global/CBC debate on Tuesday evening.

Manitobans will go to the polls on April 19.
